Well, I've been waiting and waiting to see if anyone was going to announce a Blogathon dedicated to Olivia de Havilland on the event of her 100th birthday but seeing as no one has announced one yet and since Olivia is one of my top favorite actresses, I have decided to take the plunge. My Co-host for this amazing event will be the wonderful Crystal of In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood! You can see her announcement post here.
In addition to being the oldest Oscar-winner alive and beloved as Melanie in the classic Gone With the Wind, Olivia de Havilland also made a number of other well beloved films and changed the way stars were treated by their studios. She was (and is!) also just plain gorgeous to look at! If I could pick any Hollywood star to look like it would probably be her. And if anyone deserves a Blogathon in their honor, it is her, especially since she will be turning 100 on July 1st!!!
RULES:
I'm going to make this short and sweet.
1. Anything related to Olivia de Havilland is fine. Up to TWO Duplicates of her films is allowed, so if you see that only one blogger is writing about, say, Captain Blood, you are free to write about it also. If there are already two writing about it then please choose another film (or write about all of her films with Flynn or a list of your favorite de Havilland/Flynn films - you get the idea). You can do a general overview of her films, her relationship with her sister, her association with Errol Flynn, her friendship with Bette Davis, her fight with Warner Brothers, whatever!! The topics are endless!!! Here is her filmography on IMDb to get you started.
2. Once you have made your choice, let me or Crystal know in the comments below or on her blog.
Then, grab a banner below (as you can see I got a little carried away) and share on your blog!! That's all!!!
Let's make this the greatest Blogathon ever!!! Wouldn't it be great if there were 100 entries!!! Spread the word so that everyone has an opportunity to honor this celebrated actress!!!

Back to Golden Days (http://back-to-golden-days.blogspot.pt/)
That's a good one! Just watched it for the first time in January!! Looking forward to your always excellent post!!
DeleteWonderful! I'd love to do TO EACH HIS OWN.
ReplyDeletePop Culture Reverie
https://popculturereverie.wordpress.com/
That's one I haven't seen yet! Can't wait to learn more about it!
DeleteYAY. I had a funny feeling that someone was going to announce a blogathon on Olivia for her centennial. I'm planning something for her Birthday and I'm going to ask the Journalism Academy where I study if I could do it. It's a goal anyway, but not sure how it will go.
ReplyDeleteMay I take: The Heiress ( 1949 ) and "The Snake Pit" ( 1948 )
My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood
Actually can I take "The Snake Pit" off? And I will do a life story on Olivia instead, but I will still do "The Heiress", so put me down for the Olivia life story and "The Heiress". Thanks.
DeleteHey Phyl. I'm not sure that my topic went through. If not, I would like to do a life story on Olivia as well as "The Heiress" ( 1949 ), so put me down for both of those. Because the life story may be for another assignment that I'm hoping I would also like to do a third choice, but I'm trying to think of a really rare topic regarding Olivia.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would love to help you co-host if you like? Let me know if that's ok??
My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood
I would love to have you co-host! I had actually considered asking you but I thought you might not be up to it with all the blogathons you've been having :) I'll go update the banners right now! So excited!!!
DeleteI've put you down for Life Story and The Heiress :)
Forgot to mention, feel free to make your own banners or use the ones in my post. Let me know when your announcement post is up so I can link it! And maybe shoot me an email so I will have yours :)
DeleteHi, there! Please put me down for Gone with the Wind. I have an interesting take on Melanie Wilkes--and Olivia's performance--that I've been wanting to write about for a long time.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is Moon in Gemini: https://debravega.wordpress.com/
I just watched Gone With the Wind in its' entirety for the first time a couple months ago so I can't wait to read your take!!
DeleteYES!!! I was just saying to my best friend that Nobody seemed to be planning a blogathon to celebrate Olivia de H's 100th birthday this summer, and we might have to do it ourselves... and then I stumble on this post like a day later. Perfect! Please put me down to review The Proud Rebel. My movie blog is Hamlette's Soliloquy. Off to add a button and post about this! Thanks so much for hosting it!
ReplyDeleteHaha I literally was checking the blogathon list on Classic Movie Hub every day to see if someone had announced one but when I started seeing ones for mid-July and August being announced and still no Olivia I just had to do something about it :)
DeleteCan't wait to read your review! The Proud Rebel is one I haven't seen yet. And thanks for the advertising ;)
Well, if I hadn't sniffed anything out by late April, I was going to have to host one myself, so I'm really glad you've gotten the ball rolling. Not because now I don't have to, but because it looks like you're a little more plugged into the world of classic movie bloggers than I am, so Ms. de Havilland will get the attention she deserves, which she might not have if I'd hosted it.
DeleteToday was the first time I've visited your blog, I think, but I will be poking around here a bunch, I can tell!
:)I have another blog that's kind of a catch-all that I started first but classic movies are my passion so I started this one (so is Kate Middleton but there's already several great blogs on her).
DeleteI'm checking out your blog too! Expect to find comments on old posts haha.
Is that the Solid Moonlight one? I've poked around a little there too.
DeleteI know how that goes. I started my original blog, Hamlette's Soliloquy, back in 2002, and it's my movies-and-writing-and-life-in-general blog. I then started a book-focused blog a few years ago, which is much more narrow in scope. In between, I had a couple others too, but these are the ones that I've enjoyed the most and kept going.
I've been digging your comments on my old posts! Had a busy couple days, but I think I'll have time to do some replying today :-)
Yes, I've neglected it shamefully haha. I also had a book blog with like 5 posts on it so I moved them to my solidmoonlight one and deleted it :) I have a tv blog too that I started in December but I keep signing up for blogathons on this blog haha
DeleteIt happens. I took a couple of looooooong breaks from blogging, one about a year long, and one much longer.
DeleteBlogathons are great fun! I only manage to participate in a few of the ones I find, but they're always enjoyable.
Yeah... I have this problem with signing up for every blogathon I see haha. In looking at your blog I've been looking at the Period Piece thing and your poetry month and I'm already like, I gotta join those! Haha
DeleteThe Period Drama Challenge only runs through June, so better jump on that post-haste if you want to participate.
DeleteYeah, I have to keep telling myself "I don't have time" and be really choosy about blogathons.
Delightful! Put me down for A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Adventures of Robin Hood, 2 amazing movies that I absolutely love.
ReplyDeleteAnd my blog is Musings of an Introvert. ❤
DeleteAwesome! I really want to see "Midsummer" and I love Robin Hood! It's the first film of Flynn and de Havilland I saw. I saw parts of it when I was little and I thought Olivia was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen :)
DeleteYay, Carissa! So excited to read your take on Robin Hood :-D
DeleteOh I will be in a trip in Eastern Europe on July 1-3, but I really want to participate as Olivia doesn't have 100 everyday! So I will write my post sooner and schedule it for the 1, 2 or 3 July.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that's a wonderful idea! :) I'd like to write about The Dark Mirror. :)
My blog is The Wonderful World of Cinema:
https://thewonderfulworldofcinema.wordpress.com
I'm jealous!!! You'll have to tell us about your trip!!
DeleteSo glad you can still participate! I love The Dark Mirror!! I'll make sure to check your blog around that time for the link :)
Hi Phyl. My announcement post has now been posted: Here is the link below so you can link it. I also added one new participant.
ReplyDeletehttps://crystalkalyana.wordpress.com/2016/04/18/announcing-the-olivia-de-havilland-centenary-blogathon/
I'm so glad someone's doing a blogathon in honor of Olivia's 100th! She's one of my all-time favorites, and I love so many of her movies so it's hard to pick just one to cover. So I think I'd like to do an overview of the five films in which she was nominated for an Oscar. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Keisha,
DeleteI'm co-hosting with Phyllis, so I will let her know your choice. In the meantime I will add you to the roster on my end. Thanks for joining us.
Phyllis and Crystal -
DeleteI'd like to review the 1937 film The Great Garrick - directed by James Whale, starring Olivia and also including one of my all-time favorite character actors, Edward Everett Horton. My blog is http://psychotronicpaul.blogspot.com.
I've got both of you down!
DeleteHi, Phyllis and Crystal!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're doing an OdH blogathon. I'd like to write about The Dark Mirror (1946). Meredy.com - http://mrsskeffington.blogspot.com/
Hi Meredith, we already have two people writing about The Dark Mirror. Is there another film you could choose? Or you could write about your favorite de Havilland films and include it in the list. Let me know! :)
DeleteHow about 1955's Not as a Stranger?
DeleteThat will be great!! No one's picked that one yet and I've never seen it so looking forward to your post!! :)
DeleteHi, can I join this blogathon with The Swarm (1978), https://weegiemidget.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteOf course!! Glad to have you!
DeleteHi there, Be great if you can join the fun at Realweegiemidget Reviews... https://weegiemidget.wordpress.com/2016/06/15/blogathon-update
ReplyDeleteI came across you're blogathon a couple weeks ago but I've never seen Dallas and the only thing I could think to write about would be an episode of "I Dream of Jeannie."
DeleteHi Phyllis, just seen this reply. Sorry but I can't do the blogathon this week so you can put The Swarm up for grabs again. Would love you to join the blogathon if you still keen.
DeleteThat's fine!
DeleteHey, Phyl! Here's the link to my post:
