It really takes a lot of knowledge to have an unseen character dominating a whole film / book. I have both read and watched Rebecca, and Hitchcock does a marvelous job turning the novel into the screen. I wonder who else could do what he did with Daphne Du Maurier's masterpiece.
Don't forget to read my contribution to the blogathon! :)
Cheers!
Le
http://www.criticaretro.blogspot.com
Lêhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419693749682458647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4603100249483133100.post-13432505012811858242015-11-21T20:59:58.361-05:002015-11-21T20:59:58.361-05:00Sadly, I don't know French, besides the few wo...Sadly, I don't know French, besides the few words that everybody knows. I had mainly seen later Hitchcock films before seeing this one and the only "early" one I had seen was "Strangers on a Train," which I liked so much better. It's a favorite of my mom's, and it was my second Hitchcock film after To Catch a Thief (which was quite a shock and showed me the crazy range of Hitch). I love the book too, but the movie will always be the best version for me. I associate it with a lot of good memories, an odd thing when you consider the subject matter.
